We got our first "note home" about Chali a couple of days ago! I was checking Chali's backpack Wednesday night and found a little blue note from her afterschool care teacher Miss Denise. The note said "Chali was talking back today and not listening. Especially during the tornado drill when we were suppose to listen to the instructions." We asked her what this was about and she started crying. We told her she was not in trouble we just wanted to talk about it. Well, through many devastating cries she told us that she was not the one talking during the tornado drill. She was extremely upset and said that the teacher was lying about her. However, she kind of owned up to the talking back, even though she couldn't remember what she had said. So we explained to her that we would call Miss Denise to ask her about the not listening part because we didn't want anybody lying about our little girl. I called the teacher yesterday and left her a message to see what had happened and see if we needed to take any other action with Chali, since she was having a hard time remembering. She called me this morning and explained that she sent several notes home that day. For some reason all the kids seemed quite rowdy. During lunch Chali and another boy were talking and not listening when they were suppose to, then the little boy started saying inappropriate things and Chali was feeding off of it. So Miss Denise moved them to different tables, and when they were suppose to be moving Chali just stood there and said, (you can imagine the sass) "Well WHERE am I suppose to go?" Denise said she was shocked because she had never had any problems from Chali, especially.
BUT, you will be proud to know that first thing yesterday when she got to afterschool, Chali pulled Miss Denise aside as soon as she walked in the door and said, "Miss Denise, I need to talk to you." And she apologized to her for the way that she acted...all on her own! Proud Mama & Daddy!

Our deal with our 2 yr old
Karis started noticing that Mommy and Chali and Jee, and just about every other female (Daddy as well though) all have earrings. So for the last couple of weeks she has been asking if she can get her ears pierced. Of course, we had no problem with that just haven't had the time. So in our battle to get rid of soo-soo (pacifier) I came up with the idea of letting her get her ears pierced if she threw away her soo-soos. I told her big girls get their ears pierced and big girls don't have soo-soos. She agreed whole heartedly. So we began the soo-soo disposal...

That was yesterday. As you can imagine, there was no nap after that. =) Bedtime was in Mommy and Daddy's bed and I laid down with her until she fell asleep which was in about 10 seconds. But no fuss. I moved her to her bed and she slept through the night. She woke in the morning yelling for soo-soo, but we quickly changed the conversation. Chali told me "Hey Mom, I have something to tell you. I found a soo-soo behind the bed and I almost kept it because I was gonna give it to her if she woke up in the middle of the night." Haha! Chali didn't want Karis to wake her up.
So, we met Daddy today at lunchtime and Karis got her ears pierced!
Of course, again there was no nap today and she whined for soo-soo a few times. She told Jee and I "No I want my ears pierced anymore. I want soo-soo." Whenever she puts no in front of I want, it means I don't want. But we showed her that soo-soo was in the big trash can and she'd could wave goodbye to them again, but they weren't coming back out. She seemed to be ok with that. Tonight at bathtime, she told me once again she didn't want her ears pierced anymore. But after bath she said "I wanna see my pretty headband and earrings in the mirror." So I picked her up and held her in front of the mirror. She cocked her head and said, "I keep my earrings. I like them." Put her to bed with Chali and she asked for soo-soo a couple of times, but after kisses and hugs didn't say anything else and went right to sleep! Yay! Night #2...let's make it through!

Funnies
I have some Chali funnies to tell that have happened over the last couple of weeks. First, we were in the store the other day and she found a shirt that she liked a lot. She just kept talking about how cute it was and how much she loved it and then she comes out with, "It looks so good, I just wanna dunk it in my coffee!" Now you have to imagine this little girl talkin' "hood" (I don't want to offend anyone here) with her head rolling from side to side on her little neck. SOOO funny I stopped in the middle of the store and busted out laughing. I asked her where in the world she heard that and she said "Madagascar 2." Geesh the things they soak up in one time.
So, I have been trying to get Chali to stop sucking her thumb. (All suggestions would be quite welcome here. Also, soo-soo's (pacifiers.)) She really wants the Camp Rock cd, so I told her that if she would not suck her thumb for 2 weeks, I would get her the cd. She agreed whole heartedly. I was gone last weekend though and of course on Monday she was sucking her thumb. So I said, "Chali I thought you were working on the Camp Rock cd. But you are sucking your thumb and now we have to start over." Smart little grown up thing says, "Yeah, you know, I think I'll just stick to my allowance." I can't win! =) Little stinker!

My Valentine
My Valentine's started early this year. Well, to be honest, I believe this is the first year I've actually had a Valentine's day for me since Austin and I started dating. Anyway, it started on Thursday. Austin and I met up for lunch and his face was sparkling, literally. I said "why do you have glitter on your face?" He made up some random excuse and then we sat down to eat. He then gave me my very first card EVER from him! Which, by the way, had glitter on it. =) Now, I will have to tell you that I am a huge card person. I have cards, letters, and notes saved since middle school. So this is a major deal for me to receive my first card from Austin! I was SO excited!
Then Friday after I got home from work, Austin called me into our room, and there was the most beautiful thing!
How beautiful is she??? Barcus Berry Red Sunburst acoustic & electric violin! My violin was stolen about nine years ago and Austin has been waiting and saving up for this for me! We had talked about it for my birthday and Christmas, but it just so happens that it was delivered for Valentine's. I am going to have to relearn to play, but I am ecstatic to pick it up again!
As if that wasn't enough...
I came home from work on Saturday around 6pm. I got a phone call from my sister wondering what we were doing for dinner, so I invited her over. I am in the middle of making stirfry and Austin comes into the kitchen and tells me to get my shoes and coat on. I am completely confused and just stand there like I don't know what to do. So my sister says, "I think you'd better put your shoes and coat on." And I say, "But what about dinner?" Jen says, "I think I can handle it. Go!" Ok, so Austin tells me he has something to show me and tells the girls we won't be gone long. I am so dumbfounded. We go downtown and end up walking into the Embassy Theater. I still have no idea. We walk in to see the Fort Wayne Philharmonic! They did a Valentine's show with Linda Eder (a vocalist.) Amazing! So amazing! My husband is amazing! And I am in shock that he was actually able to pull off this surprise! He is NO GOOD at keeping surprises/secrets.
We get home and on our nightstand are these beautiful flowers...
The girls (along with Jee's help) made these wonderful foam flowers with a foam vase for us. Best flowers I've ever received! The next morning I told Chali I loved the flowers so much. And I said, "These are the best flowers ever. Do you know why? Because they will never die and I will be able to look at them forever. This is the best gift!" And Chali, my little 5 year old Chali, says "No, the best gift, is love." You are so right Chali, you are so right!

Chali is a rock star
This message is brought to you by Chali Moss. Typed by my Mama.
Today I had to stay home because I catched a cold by Karis. My nose is hogged. I bet school was fun today, but I didn't go to school.
We went ice skating last Saturday. I went with Donk, Mommy, Daddy (but he did not iceskate with me.) I went with Karis and I went with myself. I fell down on my tooshie and I bumped my head 2 times on the ice. I kept trying and kept trying. I thought I did it one time, but I didn't.
Thank you for listening to Chali's story. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Even ending with another thank you.
