Huh, found this in my unfinished posts today. Not sure when I wrote it, but how sweet to reread.
I had an evening with my mom's Bible study group last night and when I came home Austin told me this beautifully sweet story about Chali. I just HAVE to share!
Austin was kissing and hugging the girls goodnight and Chali asked what he would be doing after he tucked them in. He told her he would be going down in the basement to work in the studio and she said, "No daddy, don't go in the basement!" He said, "It's ok sweetie. I really need to do some work in the basement." "No daddy, no! Pleeease don't go to the basement." So he asked her why she didn't want him to go to the basement and she replied, "because then your heart will be too far away from mine." Austin of course completely melted, as did I when he retold the story! And seriously, how did this 7 year old get so old? But I've been asking myself this question since she was 2.

life took over
Wow, I haven't posted in a year and a half. Erg. But oh well. Life took over.
We are all doing so well right now. Chali is 8 1/2 (she would put the half in there) and Karis will be 6 in 3 weeks. *tear* We keep busy. Very busy. Chali was doing vocal lessons for a few months as well as hip-hop. But as the days have become warmer she has decided she would like more free time in the afternoons after school so decided to put the vocal lessons on hold for now. Karis is still taking violin and doing so well. They both love school and are quite the little scholars and socialites. Their little personalities have become very big personalities and I love it. Sometimes I don't know what to do with them, but I'm glad they have so much independence and individuality.
We're getting ready for school to be out. I enjoy summer break as much as they do. The pool beckons us. This summer, Karis would like to take an 8 week hip-hop class (after seeing her sister compete last month) as her birthday present. And Chali would like to be in a traveling acting group this summer. Me? I just want to lay by the pool and ride my bike and work in the garden and finish home projects that I have been working on for a while now. Oh, and I want to go camping a few times too. The 4 of us! Nature and my family make me happy. Speaking of home projects, I have much more to do today, so better get a move on. Until next time...whenever that may be.

Cooties
Colds, coughs and sinus infections. These are the words of the Moss household this week. The girls seem to be starting to feel much better. They both still have lingering coughs, but we know all too well how long those can hang on. I am down with a cold & sinus infection. Feeling tired and swimmy, but trying to take it easy despite my urges to paint another layer on the front porch. The weather is just SO nice (70ish degreees) that it is killing me not to be out there painting. I pray that this infection goes away very soon and the weather stays nice for the next several days so that I can finish the paint. Grrr infection! I don't have time for you!
Chali went to the hospital this morning to have an upper GI test done. She has been complaining of occasional stomach aches for the past 4 months or so. Then about a month ago she starting to have some stuff come back up from her stomach just randomly. Monday she woke up and came out to tell me that her sternum was hurting. I thought, "Oh no. I know exactly what this is." This is one problem I have been struggling with since July. So I took her to the dr. Monday and they wanted to do an upper GI x-ray to see any stomach ulcer, gastritis or reflux. If they see nothing, we will assume it is food sensitivities and begin to eliminate certain foods from her diet. Anyway, she did great during the test this morning. Papaw (my dad) was back there with her the whole time since he works there. How nice it is to have him there! She said it was no big deal except the stuff she had to drink was icky. They gave her strawberry...and she's like her mama...no fruity flavored stuff for us thank you. ack. So we had to go eat some breakfast at Hall's immediately after which she was pretty happy about. =) We will find out the results within the next couple of days.
You know, I would really like to know how Austin seems to always escape the infections the girls and I all get!

Happiness & Pride
October may just be my favorite month. I have to say, this has been an amazingly beautiful month here in Fort Wayne...which hardly ever happens up here! Because the weather has been warmer than usual this month, the trees are beaming with color! This has been the most beautiful fall since we have lived here. And because our old historic neighborhood streets are canopied with huge trees, the sight is amazing. I thank God every day as I drive through my neighborhood. At times this fall, I have felt like I was back in NC or TN. Ahhhh, how I have loved THAT feeling! I need all I can get to help me feel at peace and this sure helps. The Lord knows this and has blessed me.
Chali ran her cross country 1 mile race again today. We have been training with her since last week's race. First Austin ran with her and he told me she beat him. I kind of giggled and said "yeah sure, she beat you." He said "no really, she beat me." But I really just thought he was being nice and being an awesome daddy and making her feel good about herself. Then, I ran with her. She beat me too. No really, she kicked my butt! Austin laughed and made some smart-ass remark. We feel old. Anyway, last week Chali came in 25th, today...13th!!! And she ran against 2nd and 3rd graders! She and her friend Eliza were the first 1st graders to cross the finish line! She is so excited because she got a ribbon. Needless to say, I am SO proud. I almost cried. Seriously, I had to choke it back. How silly am I? Or emotional. =)
Karis is having so much fun in school! I was parent helper in her class today. I do this every other week. It is so much fun to go in and work with the precious little kiddos. I notice that Karis is very sweet and loving to all her friends in class. We already knew she was, but to see her on her own (without Chali around) is such a different experience. She just truly cares for and about everyone else. Last night she came up behind me and started rubbing my shoulders because she knew I was feeling stressed out. Chris told me that on Sunday, when they were over there while we were at a wedding reception, she got up in bed with Nana (Chris) and stroked her face gently and told her she was sorry her back was hurting. Awww! Chris has been having terrible problems with her back for a few years and at times it goes out and she cannot walk or do anything. Karis is just so intuitive and compassionate. Makes my heart swell with pride and happiness.
Oh, and Chali's quote for the day, "You have to know who you are. That is the most important thing in life."

Where did the summer go?
I started this post on August 30th...
Well I'm not sure how it happened, but summer is over and school has started. Chali is now in 1st grade and Karis in Pre-K. Chali has been in school a week now and Karis starts on Sept 7th...although she is ready to start NOW! haha.
Chali is loving 1st grade so far. At first she was not quite sure about it. I think mainly because she wouldn't have her beloved Miss Miller and her little groupie of friends got broken up between the 5 classes. But she also told me "Mom, they don't really have good books in there. They are even easier than in kindergarten." She was worried the books weren't challenging enough for her, but I assured her that her teacher would figure out where each kids level was and would definitely get some books that would be good for her level. Ha. Smarty McFarty. Chali's school has what they call Art Ensemble classes throughout the whole year that are either free or at very low cost! Yay for fine arts magnet schools! Chali has chosen to take Drama the first semester and Choir the second semester. She will go to school an hour early one day a week to go to these classes. Chali says the best thing about first grade so far is "everything, especially homework." lol! They were suppose to start getting homework today, but when I picked her up from school she said they now won't get it til next week. Her thoughts on that...(insert sarcasm) "yay. so that's just great." How happy a Mama I am that she is excited to get homework! =)
Karis had her "home visit" last Wednesday. That is where her teachers come to the house to visit her and bring us parents information. It is really designed to make the kiddos comfortable with their teachers in their own environment before starting school. Miss Dionne sat on the floor and did activities with Karis while I spoke with Miss Jan. Karis drew a picture of herself and wrote her name on the paper. She also had a homework page that she had to do for them. A "getting to know you" sort of thing. She told what her favorite colors were, drew a picture of her family, cut out and glued pictures of her favorite foods (chocolate, corn on the , and cut and glued pics of things she likes to do...which included, going to the beach, playing games, and dancing.
October 7th...(that would be today. yes, that's how much I suck at this blogging thing.)
There's so much to tell that I don't even know where to begin.
School is going great for both girls. Chali just ran a mile cross country race on Tuesday and is running again next Wednesday. If she makes the top 10, she goes on to the finals on Oct. 20th. Unfortunately, she is in the same grouping as 2nd and 3rd graders, so it makes it harder. But she came in 25th on Tuesday out of 40 and I think that's pretty good for it being the first time EVER she's run a mile! Anyway, she gets to try again next week. So we will be practicing this week. Chali has also been begging me to cut her hair asymetrical for a long time, so I finally did. She's so stylish. =)
Of course Karis had to have hers cut too. And after just "compromising" with her for the past year or more, I finally gave in and gave her what she asked for. It is right above her shoulders and it is so stinkin' cute! It looks much fuller now and no more tangles! I think she looks a little older though.
This one is the day she had her school pic taken...
These just make me smile. =)
As far as I am concerned, it has been a long road since July. I am still dealing with a weird feeling in my throat, which they tell me is from the stomach ulcer they think I have, but the Nexium isn't making any difference. My appetite is back though. I have gained 3-4 lbs back of the 15 I had lost. I am still dizzy often, but I have a lot of sinus pressure which I think may be contributing to the dizziness. I went to the optometrist last week and my eyesight has changed since the summer. While I was on the antibiotic this summer, I couldn't see out of my glasses at all. I felt cross-eyed when I would wear them. So something happened and my eyesight changed. I have an appointment with a neurosurgeon on Nov. 1st. After the brain MRI, they discovered I have what is called Chiari I Malformation, which is where the cerebellum comes down into my spinal column, compressing the space and creating less spinal fluid. Which, unfortunately, can cause all sorts of symptoms...dizziness, headaches, disequilibrium, tingling in hands & feet etc.. I have experienced several strange things, but at this point I don't know how much of it may be the Chiari or aftereffects of the medication that messed me up so bad. The doctors say "there's no way that medication would have those side effects," but I know better. I know my body, and most of this stuff did NOT happen before I took that medication. Anyway, I am just praying and trying to keep a positive attitude about it all. Well, I should start my day now.

Rainy Day
I thank God for the rain today. I will be able to get some things done in the house without feeling guilty. Not cleaning of course, oh no. How much my house needs to be cleaned! But I need to get creative. It's been a long time. My sewing machine was not working for quite some time and now I've got it fixed, so I will be sewing today! I also have some beautiful new flowers to make hair accessories! So busy busy I will bee. =) It's fun with the hair things because sometimes, the girls can help. They have very interesting ideas. Chali is a regular Picasso and I go with it. When Mom was in town, I made a Button Barrette from a couple of buttons that Chali picked out and it turned our SOOO cute. I am going to continue on that path as well. The girls seem quite tired today though and are watching Alice in Wonderland. Movies and crafts...sounds good to me!

Sumthin's gotta give
Haven't posted in forever. Though I've thought about it time after time for the past 6 months, life grabs ahold and never lets go. Things have been crazy. Seriously. Starting MiJee consumed me for 4 months.
I'm working for an independent insurance agent answering the phone M-F. I have a business cell he transfers calls to me. I have also been working on spreadsheets for him. I thought this would be a much quicker process than it is. I literally cannot find time to work on them during the day. This leaves me the evening after bedtime. So by the time the girls are in bed, it's 9:30 when I get started. I work on them til my eyes can't stay open any longer and my neck, shoulders and back are hurting. Oh, and I had to learn HOW to make a spreadsheet all over again since it's been like 15 years.
I wish I could sit and work on MiJee and Bugg & Bean Boutique during the day too, but if I do, I feel guilty for making Karis go play by herself or watch a movie. She is starting to get a bit of an attitude and I can't help but wonder if this is due to lack of attention from me as I try to catch up on everything...which is a never ending battle.
Austin never gets home at any sort of normal time. It's usually while I'm reading books to the girls just before bedtime. This makes it very difficult for me to have any sort of "me" time. Weekends are always full, and if a day is not, I always feel like it should be family time since the girls don't get to see Austin throughout the week much. Where's the balance? How do people do it? I wonder if every mother feels the way I do. I feel like I do so much, and yet, don't get much accomplished. How do I get everything done & do it well, raise my children, run my business, work for someone else, do hair, etc. all while keeping my sanity???
On another note, today is Karis' 4th birthday. I wanted to do something special for her instead of buying toys and such. So I thought it would be a grand idea to book her and a friend of her choice to go to the salonspa and get their fingernails and toenails painted and their hair done in pretty curls or whatever they want. She loved it of course and walked around afterwards like a little prissy thing. We get home and after a while I notice both big toes have no polish on them. I asked what happened and she had picked it off! I had a conversation with her about not picking off her pretty polish because it was a special gift. She's 4, she doesn't care.
HAPPY 4TH BIRTHDAY BABY GIRL!!!

Heads, noses, wrists and legs, wrists and legs
I know that this post is a week past due, but the past week has been very, well, challenging to say the least. We had a wonderful 4 days with Chali and Jen! We took all the kids to the park and had a picnic. The weather was amazing. I took them back to the airport last Monday which was really hard for me to do! I miss my girlie.
We've always had really difficult nights with Josh, but now the days are becoming tough as well. They say 6 weeks is the honeymoon stage and now we are running up on 2 months, so honeymoon is over. We are working really hard with him on discipline, cause and effect (which he doesn't understand yet) and anger management. It's a long, tough road ahead, but we feel that with God and good people surrounding him, it is possible! He is actually sometimes saying "yes ma'am, and please and thank you" without being prompted now.
Well the results of Mom's MRI...fractured tibia. Owie! We are thankful it isn't muscular though and doesn't require surgery! Mom is still getting around with the help of a cane, but she's moving a bit quicker now. She's not in as much pain anymore which is so great! She is still needing to ice it each day though, because there is still swelling in her knee. I think she twisted and sprained her knee as well, not just fractured the tibia. Her next appt is on the 23rd. She gets the cast off of her arm and recheck the leg/knee. She is thinking she will be able to drive after getting the cast off.
On an exciting note, I am coming home to surprise Chali on her birthday! I am so excited, I feel like a little kid! Originally, I wasn't going to be home until after mom got her cast off and could get around well enough to keep up with Josh, but she insists I be home for Chali's birthday. She has some people lined up to help out. I am nervous about leaving her though. I know she can handle herself, but Josh is another story. He is my kids times 10. I am trusting that God will provide and knows what the heck he is doing. =)
Mom and I started to get sick about 3 days ago. We both have colds. No fun. Yesterday, we all stayed in our pjs. The kids played most of the day by themselves. That is one huge thing we have to be thankful for...Karis and Josh get along really well. They played games, hide and seek, mommy and daddy and blocks all day. I feel a tiny bit better today. We are drinking lots and lots of cold care hot tea and honey. Well, looking at the computer makes my head hurt even worse, so I'm going to call it quits now. Hope everyone is well!

Update on my Mama and what's going on with us
Well, as some may already know, on Sept. 21st my Mama fell and broke her wrist and messed up her knee. She lives in a condo on the 3rd floor with no elevator AND has a 6 yr old (extremely active) foster son. I immediately figured out how to get Chali to and from school for the next 2 weeks, packed Karis and I up and made the 11 hour drive down (13 hrs for those of us with a 3 yr old in the car.) Jee and Kim are our lifesavers right now! I enrolled Chali into afterschool care and Jee and Kim are taking turns picking her up and helping Austin out when needed. How wonderful you two are! *muah!*
So, Mom is very fortunate to have wonderful neighbors who had been taking care of her. She and Joshua were staying with a retired couple on the first floor before I got here. Another neighbor had been taking Josh to and from school every day. She is still taking him most days. The day that I came Mom tried again to scoot up all 3 flights of stairs on her butt and made it! Geesh! She is all casted up on her right arm with a pretty blue waterproof cast. I keep telling her she needs to let me sign it! Haha! She has been rolling around the house in her office chair. Her neighbor gave her a cane to use and she has been getting around a little with the cane. However, she said today that the pain has not gotten any less. Tuesday she went back to the dr. and he said they needed to do an MRI b/c it's not getting any better. He thinks she may have a torn meniscus. Yesterday I took her for her MRI and we find out tomorrow what the results are. She asked about how long she would be out of work because, you know, those bosses, they like to know these things. He said the crystal ball says mmm at least 4 weeks or so. Oh boss lady is gonna love that.
Meanwhile, taking care of Joshua has been very challenging for me. He needs a whole different level of discipline that I have not really had to do much in my mama days. Joshua's been having a difficult time because his mother missed his first visitation last week and is now back in jail. He has not seen or talked to her since his birthday in mid August. So please, please pray for him and us.
Joshua and Karis have been having fun together though. Josh really loves to have someone to play with. (at all times) They are starting to bicker a little like brother and sister but it's very minimal. We bought some games to play with the kids and we don't think Joshua has ever really played games before...other than video games. He is loving it. He absolutely loves music! He asks every day, "I can turn the ipod on?" So several days ago, I said, "Let me see you dance." He just looked at me. So I said "Can you dance?" And THIS is what he does! We have a b-boy in the house! I apologize it's so dark. My phone doesn't have flash for video.
I asked him if he'd ever danced before and he said no. I cannot believe it! He is a natural! Mom wants to get him a little cd player for his room so he can just have at it whenever he wants. I have other videos of him dancing to Austin's and my song "Hanging" but they wont send because the file is too big. I need my card to transfer them onto, but of course it's in IN.
Chali and Jee are flying here tomorrow morning!!! I cannot wait! I have missed my Chay SO much! Phone conversations with her have been fun but I can't wait to kiss and hug her. The cutest thing though are the conversations between her and Karis. Overexcited and squeally "Hi Karis!" "Hi Chali!" "I miss you!" "I miss you too!" "I'm flying on a PLANE to see come see you!" "I know!" Oh I love it. Precious memories.
I will update tomorrow or this weekend when we find out the results.

Having such a blast!
Well, even though we are so exhausted between shows we can barely function, we are having so much fun with the show! Mom and Josh (my mom's foster son) came up this past weekend. We really enjoyed meeting him and spending time with him. He is such a cute kid! He just turned 6 but is smaller than Chali. Jen and I went to Goodwill and Salvation Army to find him some clothes (b/c they sent him with only the ones on his back.) But what slim pickings they have. We found a few items and it was like Christmas for him. His face lit up. So sweet.
Friday night was opening night and it went great! Everyone was pumped and it went so smoothly. Unfortunately, we have a few people in that are extremely ill and several of us getting over it. Our villian ended up in the ER on Saturday at 4:30am! He had been having an allergic reaction to the antibiotic they had put him on the week before! I cannot believe he was still making it through performances! I have mucho respect for that man! Saturday we took the kiddos to the zoo. Josh had never been to a zoo before. Of course we left the darn camera in the car. Poo. But they had a great time. And of course to follow tradition...Zesto's ice cream on the way home! yummy! Then home to pass out before the next show. Saturday night Mom, Josh, Trip and Jen came. Another great show! Josh had a blast! The show is very active and interactive. The audience is very much involved with this show, so Josh thought that was fun.
"Opal & Lavania"
We had brunch at Spyro's on Sunday, then Mom and Josh had to leave. =( Never enough time. And off to the theater we went again for a matinee show. We had several friends there on Sunday, including Chali's teacher Miss Miller as well as Ms. Jan, her teacher last year. We had another great show, despite poor "Phineas." Chali just swelled with pride as her teachers brought her flowers! I don't think I have seen her beam that much before. =) Thank you Ms. Jan and Miss Miller for making her day!
These are all the girlies in the show. Karis, Meiying, Grayson, Allison, and Chali.
Karis liked trying on my wig. It's about as long as she is tall. Lol.
We are excited about another weekend of perfoming coming up! But GRATEFUL for a few days off inbetween! Pray for Ed "Phineas" and other cast members to be feeling their best! Mama Zannie, Papa D, Aunt Donk and Uncle Andrew are coming this weekend. Yay!

Does anyone even read this?
I am beginning to wonder if anyone reads this blog. I know I don't post as often as I should, but I do the best I can. I'm not so blog savvy. Anyway, I just see all the comments on everyone else's blogs and not that I am whining for comments here, but it just makes me wonder if I should quit blogging b/c I'm not sure if anyone is even reading this.
My sweet little 3 year old Karis just hopped over to me and said "Mama can I get in your lap?" with her mosquito eaten face. Poor baby, she was outside yesterday evening for 30 minutes and her face and arms are eaten up. Chali has none. What is it in the body chemistry that dictates whether or not you get to be graced with the presence of those little suckers? And now she wants me to get on playhousedisney.com so she can play. When did she grow so big? I wish she'd knock it off. I think I only have a few more months before she looks like a little girl instead of my little baby girl. At least the knuckles on her hands are still indented. When those pop out, it's over for me. =( Hurry up Grace and Jen! I needs me some babies!!!

Camp - i - do
Ok, just fyi, the pictures go backwards. Next time I will know to upload the pictures backwards so that they will be in the correct chronological order. =)
Back in the beginning of August, we went to Erik and Jaclyn's wedding in Michigan. They are friends of ours from college. This was no ordinary wedding. It started on a Wednesday and went through Sunday. We of course didn't go until Friday. This would be Chali and Karis' first camping trip! The drive up was beautiful...a perfect day. We set up camp without a hitch and took off immediately to find some food. That evening there was a clown named Pink-E doing face painting, balloon animals, hats, swords and magic tricks. She was a BIG hit. That night there was an open mic up at the lodge...lots of great musicians!
So, I had a really hard time sleeping that night because of all the other campers. (Anyone that knows me, knows I'm a light sleeper.) There were also a few guys (including Erik I believe) who stayed up at the lodge until like 3am singing their hearts out. I finally got to sleep and then it started pouring, which actually aided me in my sleep troubles. However, soon after the sun rose, it began to drip slightly into the tent. Nothing too bad though. I got out of the tent and tried to get the water off of the top of the tent. Meanwhile, it's still pouring.
So Saturday we try figuring out what to do until the wedding. Boating, putt-putt, and all of the usual activites are not really an option in the sheets of rain. The girls and I ended up sitting in the car most of the morning while Austin worked on the music in the lodge. We ran into the lodge to get dressed for the wedding and literally looked like we walked in from the shower...dripping. So I just put some bobbypins in my hair and gave up, hairy armpits and all. Whatever. It was a hippie wedding. Who cares? =)
Right before the ceremony, the rain stopped and the sun peeked through. It was a beautiful ceremony! Like nothing I've ever experienced before. Jaclyn's dress was amazing! One of her friends made it! Gorgeous. After the ceremony we ate the most amazing food. All fresh, organic food from her parents farm. Oh so delicious! Then we went back outside for a dancing/drumming performance. And guess who performed? Abass...from Chali's school! Abass taught African drumming at Chali's school last year and will be again this year. Chali had befriended a little African girl named Seera. sp? who's tent was next to ours. We eventually found out that she lived in Ft. Wayne and then after that found out that she lives with Abass. I put 2 and 2 together and figured out that she was the little girl that danced in front of the drummers at Chali's performance last year! Crazy. Small world. Anyway, back to the wedding...the drummers and dancers were incredible! Lots of dancing that night back in the lodge. I do believe Chali had her first dance with a boy. Pictures below. =)
I slept better that night. I slept in the car. Haha. They made us breakfast on Sunday morning. Again, delicious food. Homemade bagels. Yummy! What a wonderful time we had. Despite the rain. It was an great experience. But I have to say, I was so very very happy to have my bed back! =)
Chali and I at the reception. I think this is the curliest my hair has ever been.

Karis with the mic. Definately her Daddy's daughter!

Chali's dance partner.

Not sure what this look is, but it makes me a little uncomfortable. =)

The lovely bride and groom!

The kids dancing with the drummers.

One of the main drummers.

Austin and Erik.

Karis was clapping to the beat, on beat, the whole time!

Karis' Health
Last Friday, Karis had an appointment at the allergist for allergy testing. Oh my goodness, 3 hours of sitting, needle pricking, sitting, dr. talking, needle pricking, sitting, dr. talking, dr. talking, and more dr. talking. So after he talked to me for an hour, (I am not kidding), I walked away more confused about everything than I was when I went in. Granted, I did pick up on a couple of things, but overall, holy crap. Ok, so maybe overwhelmed is a better way to describe how I felt, and still feel.
The results...
Karis is allergic to dogs, cats, dust, molds, trees, trees native only to Ft. Wayne, wheat, milk, and a couple others that were on her arm that I had to read a few hours after we got home. I am not sure what exactly they are, but I wrote them down and they will be discussed at our next appointment, where they will have a book about Karis and her allergens all typed up and ready for us.
In the meantime, we are to unbunk the bunk beds because she isn't allowed to sleep under the top bunk anymore. Apparently all of the dust mites, skin cells, etc. breed in mattresses more than anywhere else and that is all falling on her all night as she sleeps. Ewww. Even more ewww, was listening to him explain that dust mites produce 200 times their body mass in poop which also floats around and we breath in.
So what we are instructed to do...
We have to buy the allergy encasings for all the mattresses, pillows, and comforters so that these nasty little dust mites (and their poop) won't bother Karis. We have to buy a humidity gage so that we always keep the humidty between 35 and 45. We have to buy the allergy filters for the ac/heater. (did that yesterday.) He would like us to buy a hepa air cleaner. She is not allowed to use down pillows anymore, which both the girls use, so new pillows are in order. Tiara has to have a bath at least every other week. I am supposed to wash her sheets in hot water twice a week. (this one I find comical.) I am lucky to change the sheets every 2 weeks!
We were going to move the twin beds into our room (it will become a guest room when we move upstairs), and my in-laws were planning to bring a full sized bed up sometime soon, which I was planning to put in the girls room. For those of you who don't already know, the girls both sleep on the bottom bunk, which is a twin. Karis is starting to fall between the bed and the wall. They are just getting too big to sleep in a twin together. But the only way Karis will sleep through the night is with her sister. So as I told the dr. about Dwight and Zannie bringing up the full sized mattress, he begins to frown. (You must imagine, he is very "Rainman"esque anyway.) He is not too keen on her sleeping on an old bed. He would much prefer that we bought a new mattress. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? How in the world are we going to afford all of this???
So they believe that her allergies are breaking down her immune system and causing her to get more serious illnesses. I have to take her today to get blood drawn because they are going to do an immune system test to see if hers is weak. Oh, and by the way, the doctor, nurses, AND the front desk staff all said that she is the best kid they've had in years! She didn't cry, whine, scream, nothing. They said she was better than many adults they have in there! They probably poked her back with 100 different allergens and then did her arms with about 10 on each arm. What a trooper!

Back on Stage!
We have some fun and exciting news!
Last weekend, I received an email from a little theater here in Fort Wayne. It is an old fire station that they have turned into a theater now called the Firehouse Theater. Anyway, the email said that they were auditioning for Noah's Ark and needed 8 children. So I asked Chali if she would be interested in auditioning. Of course she said absolutely! So Saturday Jen and I took the girls to the theater. Now Karis saw Chali up there and wanted to audition as well, so we humored her. Then the director, Paul, asked my sister and I if we wanted to. I thought it would be good for Chali to see Mommy up on stage (even though it's been 12 years since I've been up there!) So I got up there and read a part and so did Jen.
Paul ended up calling me on Tuesday and let me know that plans had changed. He didn't get enough men to audition for Noah's Ark, so he was changing it to a musical comedy melodrama called "Wash Your Troubles Away." He said he would like both Chali and Karis to play the little waif orphans and then he offered me the lead and my sister a part alongside my character! Here's a short rundown of the storyline...
Olympia (my character) is the owner of a laundrymat in the town of Digalittledeeper. Olympia discovered while washing clothes that there were gold flecks and nuggets sometimes in the pockets leftover from the miners. So she's been saving all of this gold for some years and is now ready to retire and sell the place to Ida (Jen's character.) Well some of the villianous people find out and end up somehow killing Olympia with a heart attack I believe. Then I come back in the second act as my twin sister Ophelia. I haven't gotten very far, but from what I am understanding, there ends up being some big hoorah about who should get the laundrymat and whether or not there was foul play in the death of Olympia. Chali and Karis get to sing a couple of songs and I am so excited to see that! I was a little worried about Karis but Paul said even if she just runs around the stage, it will be fine because they are supposed to be dirty, unruly little waif orphans. Heehee! I read through a bit last night with Chali and it looks to be hilarious!
It will be showing September 11th-20th. We are so excited!

Karis and Jojo's 3rd Birthday!
Yes, yes. It has been forever since I blogged, I know. Things have been a little crazy around here. But it's looking like things may slow down a little. Although, as soon as I say that, something is bound to happen. Thought I would share Karis' 3rd birthday...
So, Karis shared her birthday with her friend Jojo. Jojo's mom, Joy, used to be Austin's assistant and is a dear friend of ours. Well Karis and Jojo have the exact same birthday and both turned 3 this year. We decided to have a joint party so we didn't have to miss each other's. Joy was a doll and provided her house for the party. She has a mini moonwalk that she set up for the kids to jump around in. She also has a few hula-hoops that Karis just loves. Check out her hip movement! (don't forget to push the play button! It's a video.)
The head movement is pretty great too. =)
We played the limbo and freeze dance!

And sometimes when they froze, they had to make a funny face or be a certain animal. Here's Karis as an elephant.

And let me tell you, Chali is the most enthusiastic freeze dancer of all!

After all the other people left, and it was just us, Chali decided she was going to torture everybod
y with the hose. But they loved it! =)

Jojo loved his Spiderman. Karis liked her gifts as well, but I think she preferred the hula-hooping. =)

Proud Mama & Daddy
We got our first "note home" about Chali a couple of days ago! I was checking Chali's backpack Wednesday night and found a little blue note from her afterschool care teacher Miss Denise. The note said "Chali was talking back today and not listening. Especially during the tornado drill when we were suppose to listen to the instructions." We asked her what this was about and she started crying. We told her she was not in trouble we just wanted to talk about it. Well, through many devastating cries she told us that she was not the one talking during the tornado drill. She was extremely upset and said that the teacher was lying about her. However, she kind of owned up to the talking back, even though she couldn't remember what she had said. So we explained to her that we would call Miss Denise to ask her about the not listening part because we didn't want anybody lying about our little girl. I called the teacher yesterday and left her a message to see what had happened and see if we needed to take any other action with Chali, since she was having a hard time remembering. She called me this morning and explained that she sent several notes home that day. For some reason all the kids seemed quite rowdy. During lunch Chali and another boy were talking and not listening when they were suppose to, then the little boy started saying inappropriate things and Chali was feeding off of it. So Miss Denise moved them to different tables, and when they were suppose to be moving Chali just stood there and said, (you can imagine the sass) "Well WHERE am I suppose to go?" Denise said she was shocked because she had never had any problems from Chali, especially.
BUT, you will be proud to know that first thing yesterday when she got to afterschool, Chali pulled Miss Denise aside as soon as she walked in the door and said, "Miss Denise, I need to talk to you." And she apologized to her for the way that she acted...all on her own! Proud Mama & Daddy!

Our deal with our 2 yr old
Karis started noticing that Mommy and Chali and Jee, and just about every other female (Daddy as well though) all have earrings. So for the last couple of weeks she has been asking if she can get her ears pierced. Of course, we had no problem with that just haven't had the time. So in our battle to get rid of soo-soo (pacifier) I came up with the idea of letting her get her ears pierced if she threw away her soo-soos. I told her big girls get their ears pierced and big girls don't have soo-soos. She agreed whole heartedly. So we began the soo-soo disposal...

That was yesterday. As you can imagine, there was no nap after that. =) Bedtime was in Mommy and Daddy's bed and I laid down with her until she fell asleep which was in about 10 seconds. But no fuss. I moved her to her bed and she slept through the night. She woke in the morning yelling for soo-soo, but we quickly changed the conversation. Chali told me "Hey Mom, I have something to tell you. I found a soo-soo behind the bed and I almost kept it because I was gonna give it to her if she woke up in the middle of the night." Haha! Chali didn't want Karis to wake her up.
So, we met Daddy today at lunchtime and Karis got her ears pierced!
Of course, again there was no nap today and she whined for soo-soo a few times. She told Jee and I "No I want my ears pierced anymore. I want soo-soo." Whenever she puts no in front of I want, it means I don't want. But we showed her that soo-soo was in the big trash can and she'd could wave goodbye to them again, but they weren't coming back out. She seemed to be ok with that. Tonight at bathtime, she told me once again she didn't want her ears pierced anymore. But after bath she said "I wanna see my pretty headband and earrings in the mirror." So I picked her up and held her in front of the mirror. She cocked her head and said, "I keep my earrings. I like them." Put her to bed with Chali and she asked for soo-soo a couple of times, but after kisses and hugs didn't say anything else and went right to sleep! Yay! Night #2...let's make it through!

Funnies
I have some Chali funnies to tell that have happened over the last couple of weeks. First, we were in the store the other day and she found a shirt that she liked a lot. She just kept talking about how cute it was and how much she loved it and then she comes out with, "It looks so good, I just wanna dunk it in my coffee!" Now you have to imagine this little girl talkin' "hood" (I don't want to offend anyone here) with her head rolling from side to side on her little neck. SOOO funny I stopped in the middle of the store and busted out laughing. I asked her where in the world she heard that and she said "Madagascar 2." Geesh the things they soak up in one time.
So, I have been trying to get Chali to stop sucking her thumb. (All suggestions would be quite welcome here. Also, soo-soo's (pacifiers.)) She really wants the Camp Rock cd, so I told her that if she would not suck her thumb for 2 weeks, I would get her the cd. She agreed whole heartedly. I was gone last weekend though and of course on Monday she was sucking her thumb. So I said, "Chali I thought you were working on the Camp Rock cd. But you are sucking your thumb and now we have to start over." Smart little grown up thing says, "Yeah, you know, I think I'll just stick to my allowance." I can't win! =) Little stinker!

My Valentine
My Valentine's started early this year. Well, to be honest, I believe this is the first year I've actually had a Valentine's day for me since Austin and I started dating. Anyway, it started on Thursday. Austin and I met up for lunch and his face was sparkling, literally. I said "why do you have glitter on your face?" He made up some random excuse and then we sat down to eat. He then gave me my very first card EVER from him! Which, by the way, had glitter on it. =) Now, I will have to tell you that I am a huge card person. I have cards, letters, and notes saved since middle school. So this is a major deal for me to receive my first card from Austin! I was SO excited!
Then Friday after I got home from work, Austin called me into our room, and there was the most beautiful thing!
How beautiful is she??? Barcus Berry Red Sunburst acoustic & electric violin! My violin was stolen about nine years ago and Austin has been waiting and saving up for this for me! We had talked about it for my birthday and Christmas, but it just so happens that it was delivered for Valentine's. I am going to have to relearn to play, but I am ecstatic to pick it up again!
As if that wasn't enough...
I came home from work on Saturday around 6pm. I got a phone call from my sister wondering what we were doing for dinner, so I invited her over. I am in the middle of making stirfry and Austin comes into the kitchen and tells me to get my shoes and coat on. I am completely confused and just stand there like I don't know what to do. So my sister says, "I think you'd better put your shoes and coat on." And I say, "But what about dinner?" Jen says, "I think I can handle it. Go!" Ok, so Austin tells me he has something to show me and tells the girls we won't be gone long. I am so dumbfounded. We go downtown and end up walking into the Embassy Theater. I still have no idea. We walk in to see the Fort Wayne Philharmonic! They did a Valentine's show with Linda Eder (a vocalist.) Amazing! So amazing! My husband is amazing! And I am in shock that he was actually able to pull off this surprise! He is NO GOOD at keeping surprises/secrets.
We get home and on our nightstand are these beautiful flowers...
The girls (along with Jee's help) made these wonderful foam flowers with a foam vase for us. Best flowers I've ever received! The next morning I told Chali I loved the flowers so much. And I said, "These are the best flowers ever. Do you know why? Because they will never die and I will be able to look at them forever. This is the best gift!" And Chali, my little 5 year old Chali, says "No, the best gift, is love." You are so right Chali, you are so right!

Chali is a rock star
This message is brought to you by Chali Moss. Typed by my Mama.
Today I had to stay home because I catched a cold by Karis. My nose is hogged. I bet school was fun today, but I didn't go to school.
We went ice skating last Saturday. I went with Donk, Mommy, Daddy (but he did not iceskate with me.) I went with Karis and I went with myself. I fell down on my tooshie and I bumped my head 2 times on the ice. I kept trying and kept trying. I thought I did it one time, but I didn't.
Thank you for listening to Chali's story. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Even ending with another thank you.
